Off hand i can remember these:

"Uglies" series by Scott westerfield.
"The steel remains" by morgan Richards
I even like the "SVEN TVESKOEG" series by david gunn. Its a trilogy. Still on look out for the third part.
"Steel Flower" by Lilith Saintcrow. Supposed to be first book of the series, but she as yet has no plans for writing the sequel.

hi ,, I used to read a lot but recently my interest disappeared. The main reason is that most if not all of the new books are part of a series that goes on and on and the wait between books are years ( a good example is wheel of time by Robert Jordan i started reading in 1992 an it is left unfinished because author died) so can you please recommend to me if there is any stand alone sci fi or fantasy (or finished series already),even a thriller will do  to get me back to reading by new or not known well authors

 thank you very much
